Anthony Purgas is the Senior Legal Counsel – Labour and Employment with the University of Alberta. In that role, he provides legal and strategic insight on all areas touching the workplace, including human rights issues, workplace safety matters, and general policy direction. Prior to joining the University of Alberta, Anthony was a partner at a large regional law firm where advised municipalities and private companies in the areas of labour and employment, dealing with issues union and non-union alike. In addition, he had provided advice to individual employees on most areas of workplace law, including their rights when seeking accommodation. Anthony works to provide advice and direction to reduce conflict and increase the collegiality that marks post-secondary institutions
