Lauren Casey
Program Manager, Indigenous Content Initiative
UBC Sauder School of Business
Lauren Casey is a proud member of the Haida Nation from the Skidegate Band, located on Haida Gwaii off the north-central coast of BC. She is also of Métis and Ojibway heritage through her mother. Lauren was given the traditional name llgaan, meaning beloved friend, from her Nuni (grandmother in Haida). Lauren is committed to working to serve Indigenous peoples locally, in BC, and across Turtle Island. It is the Grandmothers, the Elders, and the Knowledge Keepers in communities across this land that she credits with educating her to better understand Indigenous history, culture, and ways of knowing. This sacred knowledge is what guides her in her work every day.
Currently, Lauren is the Manager of Indigenous Initiatives for the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. In this role, Lauren supports UBC’s goal of reconciliation within Sauder by working with faculty, staff and students to naturalize Indigenous knowledge systems to transform spaces, places and hearts. Prior to joining Ch’nook, Lauren served as the Issues Manager/Hearing Manager for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and as a member of the administrative team supporting the First Nations Health Council.
